About the
St. Louis Black Leadership Roundtable
The St. Louis Black Leadership Roundtable (BLR), organized in 1989 by leaders in the African American community, is a volunteer 501(c)(3) organization that advocates and supports the improvement of the quality of life for African Americans in the St. Louis metropolitan region. By improving the lives of African Americans, BLR seeks to advance the region as a whole. The work of BLR is accomplished through five strategic committees designed to identify and address issues impacting African Americans in St. Louis. Those committees include Education, Healthcare, Economic Development, Voter Awareness and Social Justice.
A set of aggressive and specific goals has been outlined by BLR in its initiative to help improve the quality of lives for African Americans in the St. Louis region. Those goals include:
1. Supporting the growth and development of businesses owned by African Americans;
2. Working with parents, administrators, educators, students and community members to eliminate the African American academic achievement gap;
3. Increasing access to healthcare for African Americans and encouraging the increase of research on illnesses that disproportionately affect them;
4. Increasing voter awareness and citizen engagement;
5. Advocating for an improved climate of justice and fairness – public justice – in all aspects of African American life in the St. Louis metropolitan region; and
6. Working collaboratively with other organizations to advance BLR’s objectives.
